During the recent Lewis Central School Board meeting, held on August 4, 2025, the board conducted important discussions and made key decisions to support the district’s ongoing growth and improvement. Below is a detailed summary to keep our community informed.
Board Work Session
The school board and Lewis Central administrators met to review the community survey results and worked to set goals for the strategic plan.
Consent Agenda Highlights
The Board approved the consent agenda, which included:
- Minutes from the July 21 special and regular board meetings
- Bills recommended for payment
- Personnel recommendations, including new hires for paraeducator and custodian roles, as well as coaches and sponsors
- Approvals of resignations and terminations for select classified staff and coaches
- Miscellaneous assignments, contracts, gifts, grants, and fundraisers
Reports
- Superintendent Update: Dr. Brent Hoesing provided updates on the new district website and preparations for the 2025-2026 school year.
- Facilities Update: Dr. Hoesing shared progress on bond projects and summer facility improvements.
Discussion & Approvals
Strategic Planning & Board Priorities
The Board reviewed survey results and set strategic goals focused on Culture/Climate, Opportunity and Access, and Facility and Finance.

IASB Legislative Priorities
Discussion included mental health, early literacy, teacher recruitment/licensure, and school funding as key legislative priorities to submit to Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB).

Foreign Exchange Student Approval & Placements
The Board reviewed and approved placements for the 2025-26 school year.
- Board Approval: Unanimous
Iowa Western College and Career Readiness Counselor MOU
The Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding for a grant-funded college and career readiness counselor position in partnership with Iowa Western Community College.
