In cooperation with staff and administration, the goal of the library program is to create students who are self-directed, life-long learners. We will assist them as they become aware, practice, and master information-seeking and processing skills. The teacher librarian serves as the bridge between technology and information.
Study & Project Space
If you haven't stopped down to check out the recent changes, please do. Are you looking for a quiet and comfy place to study? If so, we have you covered with updated seating areas and all-day access, including before and after school. Group project time? Come down with your group and take advantage of the table space and resources at your fingertips.
Recharge & Relax
Hey, if it's a recharge you need, we can provide that with multiple plug-ins and even a coffee station with regular and seasonal flavors. You can purchase a cup of coffee, tea, cappuccino, apple cider, or hot chocolate for just $1! If you want to save yourself a quarter and the environment at the same time, bring in your own reusable coffee mug with a lid. So come down and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, study, or play a board game with a friend.
Online Databases
Once again, the state of Iowa is providing free access to various online databases for all students. Some changes are made every year, but they include databases for current events, country and state information, downloadable sounds and songs, etc. These databases are excellent resources for research and the creation of digital projects.
To use these databases, see Mr. Frascht or Mrs. Blum for the user name and password.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many books can I check out at one time?
Students may check out a maximum of two books. If you need to have more than two, see Mr. Frascht or Mrs. Blum. Oftentimes, an exception can be made for special circumstances.
Can I make recommendations for books to be purchased for our library?
Yes! Just let one of us know what titles or authors you think should be added to our library.
Do I have to bring the book to the library to renew it?
No. You can renew in the library just by telling us your name. We will tell you the new due date. You can also renew from any location where you have access to the Internet by logging on to the Destiny page using your Power School user name and password. Check your account info and renew your check-outs. The directions for logging into Destiny are on the Destiny home page.
How long may I keep a book?
Books can be checked out for three weeks. If the due date falls during a vacation period the book will be due after the break.
How much does the coffee cost and when can I purchase a cup?
Coffee is $1.00 per cup. This includes the K cup of your choice, cup, and lid. If you bring in a reusable cup that has a lid and is clean, you will only be charged $0.75. If you bring your own K cup, you will only be charged $0.75. We keep a regular stock of flavors and rotate special flavors in throughout the year so check back often for specialty flavors.
Not a fan of coffee? How does hot chocolate or tea sound? We have both, and our tea selection includes a large variety of flavors. Creamer and sugar are provided for your hot drink.
If I find a book title I want in Destiny but it is located at another school in our district, is there a way to borrow it?
Yes. Ask Mr. Frascht or Mrs. Blum and they can get it for you in a day or two.
Is there a fine if I don't get my books returned or renewed in time?
Yes, the fine is $.05 per day with a maximum of $4.00 per book. If a book is kept for more than one year, the fine becomes $4.00 per year.
What areas of the library are you allowed to have coffee/food?
To respect the recent updates and keep any potential "mascots" out of the library, we ask that coffee be kept on the wood flooring around the tall tables. Food is not allowed without prior authorization from administration.
What if I need longer than three weeks to read the book?
Books can be renewed for an additional three weeks. You can renew books two times. If you need additional time after the two renewals, see Mr. Frascht or Mrs. Blum.
What is the user name and password for using Iowa AEA Online databases?
See Mr. Frascht, Mrs. Blum or any of your teachers for this information.
When I search for books, I sometimes see icons for eBooks. What are eBooks?
Ebooks are electronic books. When you click on the eBook title, you will see an option on the right to read online. Then you can read on your Chromebook, computer, iPhone, etc.
