Celebrating National School Bus Safety Week

Posted October 19, 2026

This week, we are celebrating National School Bus Safety Week with the theme: "Safe Rides, Everyday Heroes."

Every day, hundreds of students rely on our yellow buses to get them to and from school safely. To highlight the importance of safety on and off the bus, we're sharing essential safety tips for both our student riders and fellow motorists in our community.

Stop Means Stop!

When the red lights flash and the stop arm extends, Stop means STOP! Drivers traveling in both directions on undivided roads must come to a complete stop. Passing a stopped school bus puts children in immediate danger.

Let Your Driver Focus!

A safe ride starts with a clear mind for the driver. Listen to your school bus driver!  Always follow their instructions and keep noise levels down so they can give 100% of their attention to the road and surrounding traffic.

Wait Safely at the Stop

Waiting for the bus? Stay back from the road! Stand at least 10 feet (about 3 to 5 giant steps) away from the curb or street while waiting. Staying well back ensures the bus driver and passing cars can see you clearly.

Stay Seated for Safety!

Once you step onto the bus, find your seat quickly and stay seated facing forward until the bus comes to a complete stop at your destination. Sitting properly keeps you safe if the bus has to make a sudden stop!

Speak Up

If you are experiencing a problem on the bus, whether it's feeling unsafe or needing help, report it to your bus driver or bus monitor right away. They are there to support and protect you!

Thank You, Transportation Team!

As we highlight bus safety, we also want to extend a huge thank you to our incredible transportation team—our drivers, monitors, mechanics, and staff! Rain or shine, early in the morning or late in the afternoon, your dedication, vigilance, and care ensure our students arrive safely and ready to learn.
