Celebrating the Week of the Young Child - April 13 - 17, 2026

Posted March 30, 2026

Get ready for a week filled with music, art, and play! The Week of the Young Child is right around the corner, and it's the perfect time to celebrate the joys of being little. Created by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), this annual event invites families and educators to come together to honor young children and the amazing adults who help them grow. From the rhythmic beats of Music Monday to the creative sparks of Artsy Thursday, WOYC is a reminder that when we prioritize play and high-quality early education, we give our children the best possible start in life.

Be sure to share your home experiences with us on social media throughout the week by tagging the Kreft Primary Facebook page

Music Monday

When children sing, dance, and listen to music, they develop their language and early literacy skills while being active and encouraging movement.

At School: Dance parties throughout the day!

At Home: Record or write your own version of a song. Share on social media using #WOYC26.

Tasty Tuesday

Cooking together connects math with literacy skills, science, and more, with the rise in childhood obesity. You can encourage healthy nutrition and fitness habits at home and in the classroom.

At School: We will be building tasty towers!

At Home: Create your own healthy snack. Share recipes and photos on social media using #WOYC26.

Work Together Wednesday

When children build together, they explore math and science concepts and develop their social and early literacy skills.

At School: Games with friends!

At Home: Let children build together using any material, from couch pillow forts to towering skyscrapers with blocks or even a piece of art! Share on social media using #WOYC26.

Artsy Thursday

Think, problem solve, create! Children develop creativity, social skills, and fine motor skills with open-ended art projects where they can make choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands.

At School: We will create art with watercolors!

At Home: Celebrate the joy and learning children experience when engaged in creative art making. Use any materials from crayons to paint, clay to crafts! Share on social media using #WOYC26.

Family Friday

Engaging and celebrating families is the heart of supporting our youngest learners.

At School: We will be sharing about our families in a community circle. (What do you like to do with your family? Why?)

At Home: Share pictures and stories about your family on social media using #WOYC26.
