First Grade Newsletter - September 2026

Reading
Our first text set focused on school. We used this text set to build our classroom community and to help learn the expectations.
In September, our text sets will focus on rhyming, friendship, family, and an author study on Kevin Henkes.
Math
We have started our first unit in math. Students will be reviewing concepts they learned in kindergarten, such as adding and subtracting within 10. They will also be answering questions about the data.
Writing
We have been working on handwriting. In first grade, we focus on making lowercase letters correctly (proper formating and sizing). We are learning to draw and write about things that are familiar to us.
UFLI (Phonics)
We are reviewing all of the short vowel sounds. Please make sure to take time each night to go over the home practice for the skill/skills of the week.
