Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with consistency, PBIS improves social-emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and well-being. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable, and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

PBIS Rewards
Currently, Lewis Central High School utilizes the PBIS Rewards, an online and application-based rewards system. Students at LCHS can earn points through the PBIS Rewards app for showing the LCHS pillars of success (Respect, Responsibility, Initiative). As students accumulate points, they can "cash in" their points at the school store for various items such as small toys, snacks, and school supplies. Additionally, students can also be entered into drawings or raffles to win prizes such as free LC apparel, coupons for area businesses, and in-school rewards. Contact Joanna Blum for more information on the PBIS Rewards School Store!

Champs
The CHAMPS classroom management system is designed to develop an instructional structure in which students are responsible, motivated, and highly engaged in the specific task at hand. More particularly, the teacher's goal is to teach students directly how to be successful in specific class situations. CHAMPS and PBIS go hand-in-hand!
What does CHAMPS stand for?
Conversation: Can students converse during this activity? About what? With whom? For how long?
Help: How do students get attention for help? How do students get questions answered? What should they do while they wait for the teacher?
Activity: What is the expected end product of this activity? What is the task or objective?
Movement: For what reasons can students get out of their seats during this activity? Do they need permission to do so?
Participation: What behavior shows that students are participating or not participating?
Success: When the CHAMPS expectations are met, students will be successful!
Below is an example of what CHAMPS looks like in a Music Appreciation classroom!
C — Side conversations can happen, but they shouldn't be your main focus!
H — Raise your hand for help/clarification.
A — Activity should be limited to your assignment.
M — You may move around the room, however, choose a spot where you can be focused and complete most, if not all, of your assignment.
P — Everyone should be participating (aka actively working). Phones and other websites should not be accessed until after your assignment is complete.
S — Success is when you have completed and submitted your assignment!
